Health Sector Rehabilitation Support Program

Sub-Saharan Africa - Democratic Republic of Congo

2007-2011
World Bank
USD 18.1M

The projet dappui é la réhabilitation du secteur santé project was a four-year, USD 18.12M initiative (2007-2011) undertaken with the financial support of the World Bank (WB). The initiative implemented two projects in Maniema and Lulaba in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC); supporting the Ministry of Health in improving health service delivery at the district level in conflict-sensitive areas and included: community participation; communication; outreach; and gender mainstreaming components. The project strengthened the capacity of local NGOs to provide outreach. Community participation in the management of decentralized health services forms an important element of efforts to improve service delivery. The communication component centered around knowledge, attitudes, and practice, while the gender mainstreaming strategy ensured accessibility for and active participation in community management by women and children.
