Climate & Environmental Sustainability

Supporting Communities, Governments, and Businesses in a Changing Climate

Climate change and environmental degradation are among the greatest challenges facing our world today, and they disproportionately impact the poorest and most vulnerable communities. At Cowater, we work across sectors and geographies to deliver innovative, scalable, and sustainable solutions that protect natural resources, safeguard livelihoods, and build resilience to climate shocks.

Our expertise spans mitigation, adaptation, finance, sustainable resource management, and inclusive governance. We support governments, businesses, and communities to transition to low-carbon economies, implement climate-smart policies and technologies, and access the financing needed to scale solutions. From deploying renewable energy systems and advancing climate-smart agriculture, to strengthening water security and protecting forests and fisheries, we help chart the path to a cleaner, more resilient, and more prosperous future

Climate mitigation, energy transition and green economy

Cowater supports the global shift toward low-carbon economies by designing and implementing renewable energy, energy efficiency, and reforestation projects. Our work ranges from scaling solar and wind power to introducing clean cooking solutions and improving building efficiency. By promoting innovative technologies, developing skilled green workforces, and advancing policies that enable climate-smart investments, we help reduce greenhouse gas emissions while creating inclusive employment opportunities.

Climate Adaptation

Adapting to climate change requires resilience at every level: communities, infrastructure, and institutions. We design and deliver solutions that strengthen water resource management, protect ecosystems, and reduce risks from floods, droughts, and disasters. From climate-resilient infrastructure and utility transformation, to climate-smart agriculture and urban planning, our programs help societies withstand shocks while building long-term sustainability and inclusive growth

Climate Finance

Effective climate action depends on mobilizing finance at scale. Cowater works with governments, development banks, and the private sector to design strategies, build capacity, and unlock access to climate finance. We help partners navigate complex funding mechanisms, prepare bankable proposals, and integrate gender-responsive approaches into investment pipelines. Our support ensures that climate finance reaches the communities and sectors that need it most, catalyzing equitable and transformative change

Sustainable Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Natural Resource Management

Cowater supports the sustainable use of land, water, and ecosystems to balance economic growth with environmental protection. We promote climate-smart agriculture, sustainable forestry, and responsible fisheries that strengthen food security, improve livelihoods, and conserve biodiversity. In the extractive sector, we help governments and communities implement policies and oversight systems that ensure mining and energy activities align with international best practices. By integrating inclusive approaches and building local capacity, we enable natural resource management that is both equitable and sustainable.
