Strengthening of Internal Control/Internal Audit in the Philippines Department of Social Welfare and Development

In 2011, through this AUD 550,000 project, Cowater assisted the Philippines Internal Audit Service and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to strengthen internal controls and improve its practice in internal auditing and risk management. Through this project, Cowater provided long-term technical assistance and capacity building expertise to support assessments of DSWDs current internal control systems, and to develop and deliver training on local and international best practices, systems and processes as well as on relevant internal auditing laws and regulations. Additionally, the Cowater team provided support to its counterparts to formulate, develop and support rollout of a three-year Internal Audit Strategic Plan, an Internal Audit Annual Plan and a Work Program for capacity development and systems enhancement on internal controls and internal auditing practices.
